This was posted in XTRABYTES Slack channel, by member "samiboy1":

Please some one should help me out. I reinstalled windows recently on my laptop and have lost all my xby. Although I backed up the wallet. But I don't know what to do to recover my coins.

I also have my private key.

Hello, Is this also working for the Xfuel wallet ? I don't see the wallet.dat for the xfuel wallet. How do we recover Xfuel Wallet ?

It is the same but in the XFUEL folder instead of the XTRABYTES folder. Have you ran the XFUEL wallet to create the .dat file first?

I have already opened the Xfuel and receveid some xfuel but on my folder there is no wallet.dat, there is only the xfuel.exe. (I have the wallet v1.0.0.1-g ).

I've had a terrible issue happen this week, the hard drive on my computer failed and needed replacing. I stupidly had not got the private key or done a backup.

I managed to get the wallet copied across to new hard drive but it didn't have the wallet.dat file so wallet was empty.

I just managed to recover wallet.dat file, is it still possible to access the xby in here through something like electrum or bitcoin core, even without private key?

Or will I be forced to put this down as an expensive lesson?

I've tried a few things without success so far, I've come across something called pywallet which might be useful to extract private keys from a wallet.dat file but I don't have the faintest idea how to use it...

Also I thought possibly downloading the xtrabyte blockchain when it is publicly available could help get it back for me.

I've got nearly 600k xby in there, any help would be greatly appreciated...
