Working with a guy in DC right now to help get BlockchainLibrary.org off the ground. He is having a difficult time raising funds. One idea I suggested is to create a blockchain for the site to store citation data & research data on blockchains (yeah a blockchain on blockchain research).

Citation data is fairly important as it is used to perform patent analysis and patent prediction (although blockchain developers are less likely to patent than other industries).
The only drawback I can see is the cost of Eth. 1 MB apparently of data would cost 5k. I did find a post explaining a way to get around this (by not actually accessing the blockchain). But even a 90% discount is going to make it $500 per MB. Ideas?

Which begs the question- would such a project being an appropriate DApps on the Zoltchain?

I personally think that DApps, in general, are over blown in use case ideas. The practicality of most ideas on blockchain aren't realistic. People want to run full blown websites, which to me sounds impossible within the next 30 or 40 years. Blockchains are having problems just maintaining payment transactions, let alone running code.

In any block chain network, the cost of storing data will always be high, because the real world cost of networking and storage, to keep a node up, means that only networks with high fees will profit from it. So even if you wanted to move from ETH to Zoltchain, I imagine fees will always be high.

I think there are not many replies because your question is quite specialised but I would agree that Dapps are not cost effective yet, apart from maybe financial trading dapps. Can you not use a Hybrid solution like others do? ie: centralising the data and using blockchain for transactions? (Do you need to use blockchain at all?)
